Beverly 3.0

Kearsarge Beverly (Beverly, MA)

About the Project:

In 2021, Kearsarge Energy partnered with the City of Beverly, Massachusetts, to develop six solar projects totaling over 4 MW across various city-owned properties. These installations, completed in 2022, include parking canopies, rooftop arrays, and ground-mount systems throughout the city. The systems at Beverly High School and Beverly Middle School will generate enough renewable energy credits to offset almost all the city's municipal electricity use. This initiative brings Beverly significantly closer to its goal of powering 100% of municipal operations with clean energy by 2030.

This partnership builds upon Beverly's long-standing commitment to solar energy. Notably, Beverly High School was chosen by President Jimmy Carter in 1981 as one of only eight national sites for a solar panel installation. Today, this site, now known as the Dr. John W. Coleman Greenergy Park, stands as the last operational photovoltaic research site from that era. While the original array has been substantially upgraded over the years, a section of the original equipment remains, providing a valuable educational resource for the community about the history and evolution of clean energy technology.

In addition to the PV systems noted above, Kearsarge installed a 5.1MWh lithium-ion storage solution at Beverly High School. This battery energy storage solution helps optimize energy distribution to the grid.
